A big congratulations to our newly sanctioned 2007 Burlington Jr Cougars AA Blue and Head Coach Darryl Sinclair for winning the 2019 International Silver Stick Finals Tournament in Newmark this past weekend.

Our Cougars started the tournament off with two losses. Thursday night's Game 1 resulted in a 2-0 loss to the Stratford Warriors, followed by a 5-3 loss against the Newmarket Redmen on Friday morning.  Things were looking tough for our Cougars, but they came out strong Friday afternoon.  With Ethan Pascoe in net, our Cougars laid down a 7-3 win against the Copper Cliff Redmen.

Saturday morning the boys came ready to play.  They pulled out a very important 5-1 win against the North Durham Warriors that put them into the semi-finals Saturday afternoon with a rematch against the North Durham Warriors.  Our Cougars knew it was crunch time and both teams battled hard. With a 1-1 tie at the end of the 3rd, our Cougars went into a 3-on-3 overtime period. With a rush to the net #77 Joey Sinclair was taken down and given a penalty shot.  With pure confidence, Joey went in and scored to give the Cougars a 2-1 win and move them to the championship game on Sunday against the Stratford Warriors.

Sunday’s game was another hard-fought battle from both teams and once again at the end of the 3rd period we were at a 1-1 tie.  Heading into a 3-on-3 overtime period, Stratford was pressing hard but our goalie Michael Murphy was having none of it.  With his outstanding goaltending and the pressure our boys were putting on Stratford we went into a double 3-on-3 overtime period. With only 4:56 left in the 5th period, our #61 James Barr buried a backhand goal for a 2-1 win and the 2019 International Silver Stick Final Championship!

Once again, a huge congratulations to our 2007 Burlington Jr. Cougars AA Blue!
