The Jr. Cougars Atom Tier 1 Blue wrapped up its season with the March Meltdown Tournament in Toronto (March 29-31). As with every tournament this year the Cougars did not disappoint. Our boys fought and clawed there way through the round robin finishing with 2 wins, 1 loss, and 1 tie record (enough to make it to championship Sunday).
In the semi-finals, it was the Cougars vs. Halton Hills Thunder. For those in attendance, they witnessed one of the best played games of the year. The Cougars worked diligently at both ends of the ice keeping the puck out of our net and creating numerous scoring chances at the other. However, in the middle of the third period we were down a goal until Jacob Black buried home a beauty after cutting in from the right side. Unfortunately, the Thunder replied shortly after and added an empty netter to seal the Cougars fate.
Reflecting upon the season that was, the coaching staff could not be prouder of the growth and development of the team. Through seven tournaments the Cougars made it to seven championship Sundays, made the finals four times and brought home the gold twice. Beyond the scoreboard it was an honor to get to know all the players and parents.
