2004 JR COUGARS STRIKE GOLD IN PITTSBURGH!
The Burlington Jr. Cougars capped off a fantastic weekend in Pittsburgh beating the Brantford 99ers 3-2 in the U14 Championship game.

Brantford jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first period, but the resilient Cougars kept fighting and Lucas Williams’ second period goal, after a great forecheck and pass from Aidan Biggs, was just what they needed to help swing the momentum. Minutes later, Tyler Mate tied the game on a nice give and go play with Ethan Catney-Forbes. Early in third, Lucas Williams sealed the deal with a beautiful shot on a solid break-out pass from Aidan Schultz.  The clock could not go fast enough and game MVP, Grayson Kuhlmann made a number of critical saves down the stretch to help preserve the lead.

The Cougars played well the entire weekend and only surrendered 6 goals in 5 games, a testament to great goaltending from the tandem of Aiden Edmunds & Grayson Kuhlmann. The defence core were also very impressive, some great rushes from Nathan Oryschak and Caden Quong, a number of rocket shots from Matthew Klawsuc and the steady at home play from the always reliable Jacob Rolfe.   The Cougars had a balanced attack with all 3 lines contributing on the score sheet and lit the lamp 15 times in the 5 games.  The line of Devin Nelson, Nick Ruzic and Tyler “Nämé” Board lead the way with 7 goals including a memorable hat trick in game 2 from Nelson, highlights of his father Keith’s celebration can be easily found on Youtube.    Lucas Williams, Aidan Biggs and Aidan Schultz came up big when it mattered, a tenacious  forecheck led to the game winning goal in the semi final and smooth breakout ended in the back of the net for the GWG in the final!   Finally the line of Tyler Mate, Ethan Catney-Forbes and Liam Dean were impactful all weekend with at least a goal in all five games!

Thank you to the entire coaching staff and our amazing hockey families for a great hockey experience. Go Cougars Go!
