FAIR PLAY & ICE TIME POLICY
As a Hockey Canada Sanctioned program, the Burlington Jr. Raiders use the Fair-Play Recommendations established by Hockey Canada as the foundation of our Player Ice Time Policy.
The Jr. Raiders policy on player ice time is:
· During the course of the season, coaches are to ensure that all players receive equal ice time, with equal ice time defined as every attempt being made by the coaching staff to have players average approximate equal ice time per game.
· Coaches are guided to develop all players in all situations.
· Coaches are guided to ‘roll-three’ lines throughout the game, keeping shift lengths close to even.
o Coaches are permitted to use their discretion during the last five-minutes of a game as long as it is for the benefit of the team and/or to make up ice time to players who may have missed shifts in the last five minutes of a previous game.
o For games that are deemed ‘important’ (such as playing for the final AA seeding, a tournament semi-final, league playoffs, etc.) coaches may, at their discretion, opt for special teams such as a power-play or penalty kill in key situations during the game. In this case, every effort must be made to balance lost ice time within the same game or a subsequent game.
o Coaches must explain to team parents their approach to ice time at the time of team selection and make them aware of the Jr. Raiders Fair Play & Ice Time Policy.
o Coaches are to be cognizant of the Jr. Raiders emphasis on player development when formulating their approach to ice time.
