2008 Tier 1 White Top Canadian Team at Nations Cup
The 2008 Tier 1 White Burlington Jr Cougars went 3-1 in round robin play this past weekend at the Nations Cup in Ann Arbour, Michigan.
Burlington finished as the top Canadian team advancing to the final against the #3 ranked 2008 team in the US, the Chicago Fury. Burlington started strong winning 7-0 against the Seacoast Spartans. Day 1 of the tournament finished with a 6-3 win over the Oakland Jr Grizzlies to stay unbeaten.
Day 2 began with an early morning game against the 15th ranked team, Pittsburgh Vengeance. The game was fast paced and resulted in 4-3 victory for Burlington. This set up a battle of 2 undefeated teams. Burlington squared off against the Chicago Fury and lost with a final score of 4-1. Despite the loss Burlington was the top Canadian team and advanced to the finals in a re-match against Chicago.
The final game was an incredible back and forth contest. Burlington was the first to strike midway through the second period and the game was 1-0. The game saw some shutdown defence played by both teams, but Chicago evened the contest with a great play from an offensive zone face off. Entering period 3 both teams were pressing for the go ahead goal. Chicago got a fortunate bounce and took the lead 2-1. Burlington created a flurry of opportunities to tie the game up however some great goaltending and good team play by Chicago sealed the victory.
Congratulations to Chicago and lots of credit to the 2008 Tier 1 White Burlington Jr Cougars who played a fabulous hockey game, finishing as the top Canadian team at the Nations Cup.
Next up is Buffalo Jr Sabres Showcase on February 22nd to February 24th. Stay tuned for the results.
