2003 T2 Blue - Cleveland Rock n' Roll
The Jr. Cougars Minor Midget Tier 2 team played their very best hockey of the season a few weekends ago when it counted most.
On Saturday, February 16 they upset Gilmour Academy 1-0 - their first win of the season.
Sunday morning they lost 3-1 to the Butler Valley Dawgs in a very physical game. They scored their third goal into an empty net.
Sunday evening the Jr. Cougars beat Canton Victory Honda 5-2 to set up a re-match in the final on Monday morning with Butler.
The Monday final was a well-played, intense match from start to finish. There was no shortage of physical play. One Butler player was given a 10 minute misconduct and ejected for a vicious hit from behind on Jack Pascall into the boards. Twice we went down by a goal and fought back to tie the game. Late in the game we had three great chances to take a 3-2 lead but it was not to be. With 3:14 to play in overtime Butler got control of a rebound and deposited it short side just below the Burlington goalie's blocker.
The team has overcome many challenges this season and have developed as a true TEAM. They're looking forward to a few final exhibition games and a late March Tournament in Toronto.
