Halton Hills Best of the Best Tournament
Jr. Cougars 2008 Tier 1 Blue - Finalists in the Halton Hills Best of the Best AA Tournament
Oct 5 - 7, 2018.
It was a very exciting weekend of hockey for the Jr. Cougars 2008 Tier 1 Blue. Despite excellent goal tending from Ethan Zunti and Ben Hepburn, and last minute heroic goals throughout the tournament, the Jr. Cougars fell short in the end losing in the finals. Here is a quick recap:
After opening the tournament on the wrong end of a 2-0 loss to the Aurora Tigers the Jr. Cougars needed to string together a few wins. Game 2 against the Hamilton Huskies we found ourselves down by a goal late in the third period. With the goalie pulled, Liam Keogh hammered home the game tying goal with 3 seconds left on the clock. Final score 3-3.
In the third game versus the Belle River Canadians, the game was tied 3-3 late in the third. We needed a win to stay alive. With the goalie pulled again, Caden Paquette found the back of the net with 7 seconds left to earn the victory.
In the fourth game of the round robin we flexed some muscle and tightened up our defense to beat the feisty Orangeville Tigers 4-1 and secured a spot in the finals.
In the final game the Jr. Cougars battled hard at both ends of the rink and ran into some hot goal tending. Unfortunately when the final buzzer sounded it was 3-1 for the Aurora Tigers.
Overall the Jr. Cougars continue to improve and gel as a team and the coaches could not be more proud. Let’s keep up the hard work and effort. Our next tournament is the Annual Capital Fall Classic in Ottawa November 2-4.
